Posting Quality, New Rules and Signatures

Hey guys, just giving you a quick little update about what's been going on here. I'm currently in the process of working on some major updates, although I'm taking my time because I'm on vacation right now. Actually, I'm not even going to talk about it, let's talk about some stuff that affects you now.

Posting Quality
I know our forums aren't packed to the brim with users, but this doesn't mean that quality of posted content should decline. I've also noticed a number of users posting nice little one word/phrase and calling that a post. I'm not going to make a new rule out of it, but I'm going to kindly remind everyone that you shouldn't post on a topic unless you have something meaningful to contribute to it.

Also, there are now more specific options for reporting a post. Now you can specify which rule the user is breaking instead of just clicking "Other". This will give our moderators a better idea of what they should be looking out for.

New Rule - No NX Begging or Affiliate Links
I didn't even think I had to say this, but a number of users are starting to beg for NX gifts. This is simply uncalled for. It is no longer allowed to ask for NX gifts for any reason, including "review" and "testing". If you want some NX, go buy some online or at the store.

Another some-what related rule update is regarding affiliate links. Affiliate links are not allowed on our forums. Links to websites like Neobux, PrizeRebel and GamingLagoon that contain referral IDs are not allowed period. I may be willing to be flexible with this rule for areas other than NX, but please ask a moderator (or me) before posting any affiliate link.

Signatures
I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little bored of our signatures. Is anyone interested in making some new ones? I'm talking about these:

If you want to give it a try, feel free to PM me a completed example. If I like it, I'll go ahead and add it to the line up. I'd prefer if they weren't watermarked with your name, but if you can make it flow nicely with a watermark go for it. VIP Status will be granted to exceptional submissions.

Sorry there are no major updates, guys and gals.
Thanks for reading!

CAHQ Marked as Malicious

Update:
I noticed some people were concerned that they could have gotten the virus through our signatures. This is something you will never have to worry about. It is impossible (as in, short of an amazing new exploit that would put every image on the web at risk) to pass malicious code through a simple image. Our signatures were never compromised in any way, although, while the site was marked as malicious, they may not have shown up.

Once again, everything is clean and cleared now and we are very sorry this has happened.

Original:
As you may have noticed, CombatArmsHQ.com has recently been marked as containing malicious code. As soon as I saw this mark, I quickly found out that CAHQ had been compromised. The attack was not directly targeted to harm CAHQ or any of our users. You are not at risk if you visited the site while it was "infected."

To my fellow nerds (just some tech info):
http://blog.unmaskparasites.com/2009/11 ... s-scripts/

I ran the script in a sandbox environment with Wireshark running to see what was actually going on. After purposefully allowing Internet Explorer to run scripts that it said may be malicious, the script attempted to access a domain that was invalid (and therefore, whatever injection was supposed to occur failed). I'm fairly certain this attack is a dying breed and is hardly dangerous unless you're using far outdated web browsers and surfing with the lowest of security settings. Note: this attack failed completely in FireFox and newer versions of IE (7+).

To everyone:
In short, there is no need to worry. This is just a nice little remind that we should all keep our browser up to date and have some simplistic internet security tools. The code has been removed and I've submitted for CAHQ to be reviewed by Google again to remove it's "dangerous" status.

Also, the forums were not compromised in anyway, it was only our main website, CAHQ.
I'm very sorry if this worried anyone. Things should be back to normal shortly.

Edit:
We've been de-listed as a malicious site at this time, thanks for hanging in there :yup:

Trial Moderators

djay16 and TriggerNgo Have been made Trial Moderators, as I don't have a computer at the moment, I will have to rely mostly on these two to make up for my decrease in activity. Please don't let me down. This doesn't mean that they are my slaves and they do whatever they want. It also doesn't mean that once I got a computer they will be demoted.
I will be surveying how they do and if they do poorly, they will be demoted without consent and on moment's notice.
If you are wondering why I chose these two is because djay has been on the forums for about a year, is loyal, and has experience in this facility. I have chosen Trigger because he is dedicated and has the right perspective upon right and wrong.
If you have any questions please ask below.

EDIT: I'd like to know all of your opinions on this choice, good or bad.

CombatArmsForum.net Name

Alright, I have a rather confusing question if you don't know much about web domains. Currently, our community forums (the blue and black website) is using the domain CombatArmsForum.net and the main website is CombatArmsHQ.com. I have some plans to do some integration between the two sites, so when you visit our main website (CAHQ) you can see whats going on in the community and do more things with your account.

In order to do any integration between CAHQ and these forums, I have to use only one domain name. This means I would have to change the address to get to these forums to http://forums.combatarmshq.com or something similar, using the CAHQ domain name.

I can make it so CombatArmsForum.net and all of the current links into that domain are redirected to the new http://forums.combatarmshq.com domain name. So, to visit the forums you could still just type CombatArmsForum.net if you wanted to, but it would be redirected to the new domain.

How does everyone feel about this?
